Our Mission
Our mission is to provide college scholarships and educational counseling to military children who
have lost a parent in combat or training. We bridge the gap between existing sources of grants and scholarships and the total cost of college.
Why Education?
A college education is the single most important gift we can give these children. In today’s world a college education is the key to a successful future. Not only does it ensure job opportunities in our increasingly knowledge-based economy, but it also introduces students to ideas and methods of learning that will serve them in all aspects of their lives. By providing college scholarships and long-term educational counseling to these children, we honor the lives of those who have sacrificed themselves for our country, ensuring the success of those they loved.
The Challenge
There are a number of factors that create the need for CFPF’s services to our military families:
- Due to privacy laws it is very difficult for military aid organizations to find families who have lost a loved one.
- Aid organizations tend not be broadly focused but rather serve a particular military branch or unit
- Because no central directory of help exists, it is difficult for families to find aid.
- Finally, most surviving families have young children when their loved one is killed and move back home and away from the military support network.
Thus thousands of deserving children are slipping through the cracks. Our experience has proven that even when families are able to find aid, there is a persistent gap between funding and college costs. Our objective is to streamline this very complicated, burdensome and insufficient process for “our” families.
We are in a Unique Position to Make a Difference
By approaching this challenge in the broadest possible way, we have already had great success reaching and helping hundreds of children. And this is just the beginning.
- We have enrolled over 1,000 children in our system – a unique accomplishment given the difficulty in finding surviving families
- We award scholarships to families from all branches and units of the armed forces.
- We are dedicated to tracking children of soldiers who have lost their lives in both combat and accidents.
- We bridge the gap between existing sources of grants and scholarships and the total cost of college.
- We are a resource to families as they try to find other sources of grants and scholarships.
- We provide counseling as families prepare for college.
- We are dedicated to ultimately streamlining the process and becoming a central clearinghouse for families and funding organizations.
- We are supported by an accomplished and dedicated Board of Advisors, including Mrs. Holly Petraeus
So Far So Good
While we are still a young organization, we have already awarded over $3.1 million in scholarships to 241 children. We have raised over $5 million dollars which is allowing us to begin the process over 1,000 more who are currently too young for college. This is only the beginning. Our goal is to ultimately raise over $200 million so that we can help every child who needs us.
