FAQs for Families
What is the mission of CFPF?
To provide college scholarships and educational counseling to the children of military personnel who have been killed in combat or training. Our goal is to bridge the gap in funding between available sources of grants and scholarships (i.e., VA Chapter 35, federal, state, local and private grants) and the total cost of college. We hope to ensure that no child covered by our mission has to go out-of-pocket or take on loans to pay for college.
What types of expenses are covered?
Any costs related to higher education: tuition, books, fees, room and board, supplies, etc. Students can be enrolled in either public or private institutions. Colleges, universities and vocational schools are covered. We are flexible – if you have a need, please tell us about it.
Who is eligible?
Children (whether natural, by marriage or adoption) who have lost a parent in the line of military duty. All branches and units of the military are covered: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Reserves/National Guard. Post secondary institutions are covered: colleges, universities, community colleges and vocational schools. Students must demonstrate values that would bring honor upon our Fallen Patriots.
How much does CFPF provide to each student?
There is no maximum amount, subject to the requirements described above. CFPF aims to “bridge the gap” in funding between available sources of grants and scholarships (i.e., VA Chapter 35, federal, state, local and private grants) and the total cost of college. We hope to ensure that no child or widow covered by our mission has to go out-of-pocket or take on loans to pay for college. Thus award amounts are based on individual needs and our available funding.
What documentation do I need to provide?
We realize the strain that surviving families are often enduring and so we strive to make our process as simple, user friendly and flexible as possible. Our personnel can handle many of your needs over the phone. Typical documents needed are:
- The family enrollment which enters you into our system.
- Bills or receipts for all covered expenses.
- Transcript
What is the scholarship award process?
Our scholarship committee is small and streamlined. Decisions are made throughout the year and in a timely fashion upon receipt of the necessary documents.
How are funds provided?
By check preferably paid to the order of the educational institution. Exceptions can be made for special situations or scholarships awarded to reimburse recipients for amounts paid out-of-pocket.
