U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program (DEA)
Dependents’ Educational Assistance provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of certain veterans. The program (Chapter 35, Title 38, U.S.C) offers up to 45 months of education benefits and the benefit is approximately $850 per month. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship, and on-the-job training. If you are currently a spouse, you may take a correspondence course. Remedial, deficiency and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. You will need to complete VA Form 22-5490.

The Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) is available for individuals who served on active duty after September 10, 2001. This is a newer program and provides different benefits than Chapter 35.

The Mission of Freedom Alliance is to advance the American heritage of freedom by honoring and encouraging military service, defending the sovereignty of the United States and promoting a strong national defense. Freedom Alliance , a 501(c)3 educational and charitable foundation, was founded in 1990 by LtCol Oliver L. North, who now serves as the organization’s honorary chairman.

Assists families of deceased military members through grief counseling, support groups and a number of other ways.
Gold Star Wives of America
Provides benefits and other information to military widows and widowers.
The Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant
Student must be enrolled in college at least part-time at the time of the parent’s or guardian’s death, and under the age of 24.

Folds of Honor
Folds of Honor Foundation provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation.
Scholarships for Military Children
The Scholarships for Military Children Program was created to recognize the contributions of military families to the readiness of the fighting force and to celebrate the role of the commissary in the military family community. If your mother or father is active duty, reserve/guard, or retired military personnel or you are the survivor of a deceased member, and you have a military dependent I.D. card you can apply. You must be planning to attend a college or university on a full-time basis.
National Military Family Association Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarship Program.
The National Military Family Association Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarships are awarded to spouses of Uniformed Services members (active duty, National Guard and Reserve, retirees and survivors) to obtain professional certification or to attend post secondary or graduate school. Scholarships are normally in the amount of $1,000.00 and the number awarded each year varies depending on funding. Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, books and school room and board.
Fallen Patriots Fund
The Fallen Patriot Fund of the Mark Cuban Foundation was established to help families of U.S. military personnel who were killed or seriously injured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Financial resources are vital to enhancing the sustainability of the family unit who has suffered a loss because their loved one sacrificed him/herself for freedom. Within that group, grant recipients will be selected in accordance with criteria established by The Mark Cuban Foundation. All proceeds will be disbursed.
Special Operations Warrior Foundation
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides college scholarship grants, along with financial aid and educational counseling, to the children of Special Operations personnel who were killed in an operational mission or training accident.
Navy SEAL Warrior Fund
The Navy SEAL Warrior Fund is a non-profit organization established to raise funds in support of the families of US Navy SEALs who have died while serving our country, or who are presently serving in harm’s way in trouble spots around the world. Funds go to improve the education, health and wellness of the spouses and children of deceased and active duty SEALs.
National Association of County Veterans Service Officers
Assists veterans, widows, widowers and children to recieve the full benefits they are entitled to.

Provides veteran benefits, military retirement and survivor benefits for members of all branches of Armed Forces and their families.

Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund
The Intrepid Fund is constructing an advance training skills facility at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. The center will serve military personel who have been severely injured.
