Scholar Highlight: Abbie Wittwer

Abbie is the daughter of Lieutenant Commander Frank Wittwer who passed away from a training accident in 2006. When asked what her fondest memory of her dad is, Abbie says, “My favorite memory with my dad is when he taught my sister and I how to read. After he got off work and my sister and I were in bed, he would come and read to us every night. Eventually, my sister and I were the ones reading to him.”

With the help of Fallen Patriots, Abbie graduated from the University of North Georgia with a degree in Accounting May 2022. During her time in college, Abbie served as the Vice President of Finance for the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. After graduation, Abbie joined the Fallen Patriots family as a Staff Accountant. Since then, she has joined the Development Team as a Development Operations Officer.

When asked how receiving a scholarship from Fallen Patriots has impacted her college journey, Abbie says, “Fallen Patriots has given me peace of mind and financial stability through the scholarships I have received. Not having to worry about how to make ends meet during the school year has allowed me to focus so much more on school than on money. Fallen Patriots cares about their scholars in more than just a financial capacity. CFP really treats their employees and students like family.”

There are approximately 25,000 children who have lost an active-duty parent in the military over the last 35 years. The vision of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation is to ensure that every such child receives all necessary college funding.
