Carson is the son of Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Sonnenberg who was killed in action in Iraq in 2007. Carson says his stepdad truly left alasting impression. “He always had a smile on his face and carrieda positive attitude wherever he went. Even though I was very young when he passed, I clearly remember how everyone wanted to bearound him because of the uplifting energy he brought.”
With the help of Fallen Patriots, Carson graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He has since been commissioned into the U.S. Air Force and is currently pursuing his MBA.
When asked how receiving a scholarship from Fallen Patriots has impacted his journey, Carson says, “I began flight school at age17, but without support from Children of Fallen Patriots, I wouldn’thave been able to afford the flight fees that came with my degree.Their support made it possible for me to attend an incredible school and earn both my Private Pilot’s License and Instrument Rating by the age of 19,” says Carson.
There are approximately 25,000 children who have lost an active-duty parent in the military over the last 35 years. The vision of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation is to ensure that every such child receives all necessary college funding.
