Joelle is the daughter of Staff Sergeant Bryce Edward Leek who passed away from a training accident in 2015. Joelle describes her dad as, “goofy, hardworking, and selfless. When he wasn’t overseas, he was spending as much time as he could with his family. His lively inner child kept him very connected to my brothers and I. Even strangers could tell how devoted of a father he was.”
With the help of Fallen Patriots, Joelle graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Public Relations in December 2021. During her time in college, Joelle volunteered as a Public Relations Specialist and with the Brown House Organization.
When asked how receiving a scholarship from Fallen Patriots has impacted her college journey, Joelle says, “The financial support Fallen Patriots provided allowed me to focus on my academics and professional development. It also gave my mom peace of mind as she had three kids starting college within three years.” Joelle is now part of the Fallen Patriots family as Career Center and Corporate Partner Associate.
There are approximately 25,000 children who have lost an active-duty parent in the military over the last 35 years. The vision of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation is to ensure that every such child receives all necessary college funding.
