Now in its fourth year, #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the influence of social media and collaboration. The day lands on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Dec. 1st, and kicks off the charitable season. The concept behind #GivingTuesday, is to create a day where giving to others becomes a priority.

Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation hopes donors will cap a weekend of Thanksgiving and holiday cheer by celebrating and donating to our mission. The daylong celebration of generosity will highlight the immense difference others can make to ensure a future for Gold Star children.

We hope the national movement will bring funds and awareness to Fallen Patriots. Approximately 97% of casualties at war are male, leaving mothers alone to care for their children. Any donation can help #EasetheBurden that Gold Star wives have during the holidays.

#GivingTuesday was created when two organizations, the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation came together in 2012, about a month before that year’s Thanksgiving. Their intention was to set aside a day that was all about celebrating the generosity of giving, a great American tradition. The first Giving Tuesday was covered extensively by the Washington Post, the Huffington Post, ABC News, Deseret News, and the White House official blog, causing the project to gain an enormous amount of popularity in a short period of time.

Last year, over $45 million was donated to nonprofit organizations on #GivingTuesday. The season of giving, is expected to continue increasing this year. #GivingTuesday is a simple idea. In order to participate find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to join in acts of giving.

The widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday are prior to the day of giving. Last year, Cyber Monday revenue grew 21% with a record of approximately $2.29 billion in sales.  Giving Tuesday is attempting to build a social habit, to give a portion of those funds to non-profit organizations and remind people that there is more to holidays than consumerism and commercialization.
