Purple Heart Day honors the legacy of those who were wounded or killed while serving in the U.S. military. August 7 is an observance to commemorate the near 2 million Purple Heart medal recipients. War takes a heavy toll on our nation’s servicemen and women, as well as their families and friends. May we always remember the soldiers who lost their lives to protect our freedom.
U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Henry I. died December 3, 2004, serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His unit was on patrol when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee. I. was awarded one of the oldest military honors, the Purple Heart medal, as a symbol of bravery for making the ultimate sacrifice.
Fourteen years later, Henry’s son Danny, 28, is now on the New York Police Department's elite Critical Response Command unit and recently passed his written sergeant’s exam. Danny grew up focused, motivated, and never settled for excuses. He is determined to save people, just like his Dad did.
Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation (Fallen Patriots) is dedicated to empowering individuals like Danny. Our mission is to provide college scholarships and educational counseling to all children who have lost a parent in the line of duty. We are proud to have supported Danny’s education at the University of New Haven, where he graduated with a degree in criminal justice.
