Oceanana S. is the daughter of Army Specialist Danny S., who passed away in 2015. Oceanana is a junior at the University of Kentucky where she is studying Political Science and International Studies. She also serves as the Chair of the Concert Committee for the University of Kentucky’s Student Activities Board.
Oceanana describes her father as intelligent and hardworking. “He loved his family and made sure he provided for them no matter what life threw in his way.” When asked what she thought her father would be most proud of her for, Oceanana says, “My father would be proud of me for staying strong and helping my mom through everything that has happened over the past few years. He would also be proud of me for going to college, doing well in college. Also, he would be proud of what I have done throughout my high school and college careers despite taking on so many difficult classes year after year.”
“Receiving a scholarship from Children of Fallen Patriots has been a blessing. The scholarship I receive each semester has allowed me to be able to afford everything I need for school such as books and a laptop. I can pay for transportation as I commute to school from my house which is typically an hour long drive each morning. I can focus on class assignments rather than working full-time. This scholarship helped my mom not stress out so much over finances as well.”
There are approximately 25,000 children who have lost a parent in the line of duty over the past 35 years. The vision of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation is to ensure that every such child receives all necessary college funding.
