Diners at IHOP restaurants this month can help raise money for a charity that works with the children of fallen troops.
The restaurant chain will donate $1 to the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation for every Red, White and Blue Pancake combo sold in November, with guests also able to make donations directly to the organization’s scholarship program.
Children of Fallen Patriots helps provide money to cover the total cost of undergraduate education for the children of troops who have been killed in the line of duty. Since 2002, the organization has provided more than $19 million in scholarships, supplemental grants and other assistance, officials said.
“Our scholarships and financial assistance, funded by our loyal donors and corporate sponsors, have helped over 440 bright and motivated students graduate from college,” David Kim, the Children of Fallen Patriots’ co-founder and CEO, said in a release. “More than 1,650 IHOP restaurants throughout the country will assist with our mission by spreading awareness and helping raise funds needed for military families of the fallen.”
The president of IHOP, a former Army Ranger and Gulf War veteran named Darren Rebelez, said the restaurant chain was proud to partner with the charity and saw the partnership as a way to honor “the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to our country by helping their children realize their dream of a college education.”
