Jacksonville, FL – In remembrance of military members who have lost their lives while serving the United States, and in honor of the surviving families, PepsiCo North America Beverages is conducting their third annual relay, “Rolling Remembrance,” to help spread awareness for Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation (Fallen Patriots).
This year’s “Rolling Remembrance” relay is a 7,000-mile journey that began in Seattle, Wash. on April 24 and ends in White Plains, N.Y. on May 25. Using normal business routes, U.S. Military Veteran PepsiCo North America Beverages drivers will pass off a flag to each other at 42 different relay points.
Rolling Remembrance will roll into PepsiCo’s Jacksonville headquarters on Tuesday, May 9th. PepsiCo has invited the public to attend this free event at 5829 Pepsi Place from 1:30 - 4pm. PepsiCo will be honoring surviving military children, as well as providing giveaways, food and beverages.
This year’s event kicks-off Military Appreciation Month, which includes Children of Fallen Patriots Day, honored on May 13th. Officially proclaimed by mayors and governors throughout the nation, including Governor Rick Scott, Children of Fallen Patriots Day praises the bravery of surviving military children. Last year’s Rolling Remembrance event arrived in Jacksonville on Children of Fallen Patriots Day.
Over 97 percent of those killed in military action are men, leaving mothers and children behind. The financial responsibility of raising a family after such a tragedy is extremely difficult. Children of Fallen Patriots provide children of fallen military members an opportunity for a college education by providing college scholarships to children who have lost their parent in the line of duty.
“Rolling Remembrance allows us to recognize the sacrifices of veterans and their families and contribute to a cause we believe in deeply,” said Jim Farrell, PepsiCo vice president of logistics, distribution and transportation. “It is an honor to also have the ability to involve our own employees who have served their country, whether it’s by giving them the opportunity to drive a leg of the trip or organizing events along the route.”
The “Rolling Remembrance” flag was originally flown on a UH-60M Blackhawk Helicopter in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom 2012. As the flag moves from region to region, drivers and PepsiCo North America Beverages representatives will show their support locally by cheering on the drivers and taking photos to share on social media – #RollingRemembrance
Awareness is not the only benefit for Fallen Patriots. While the “Rolling Remembrance” flag is relayed at each site, financial participation from the local community is encouraged. There are opportunities for anyone to get involved and support the “Rolling Remembrance” campaign – http://www.fallenpatriots.org/rr
Last year, the “Rolling Remembrance” campaign raised over $100,000 for Fallen Patriots. While incredibly generous, nearly 20,000 children from all across America are still in need of future assistance. Fallen Patriots continues to work to honor those who are no longer with us by giving to those they left behind.
