Anthony M. Jr. remembers feeling an overwhelming drive as he walked off his high school graduation stage with his diploma in hand. After losing his father, U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Anthony M. Sr., Anthony says he felt a variety of intense and scattered emotions. “I had a very long final two years of high school after my father’s passing,” Anthony explained. “But, what I remember most about graduation was a determination to become the best person I can be and to follow my passion for business.”
During high school, Anthony earned academic scholarships; however, they weren’t enough to help him achieve his educational goals. “I was well on my way to success, but was hindered by financial need,” he explained. That’s when Fallen Patriots stepped in and offered support. “Aside from my family, one of the largest contributors to my success has been Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation and its dedicated staff.”
With the help of Fallen Patriots, Anthony is currently attending business school at the University of Florida. He also participated in an internship program in Washington, D.C. with an economic development firm. “Not only did this opportunity give me technical skills in my field of study, but I grew emotionally as my comfort zone was pushed. It helped me see my potential in making a positive difference in my community and in society,” he said.
Anthony is one of more than 2,700 students Fallen Patriots has assisted by providing approximately $67 million in educational support since its inception in 2002. Fallen Patriots aims to identify and provide scholarships to all 25,000 children who have lost a parent in the line of duty over the past 35 years.
