Savannah V. is the daughter of U.S. Airforce Technical Sergeant Victor V. “He took every moment and made sure to create a memory. He chose to always have fun and take care of family no matter what.” Sergeant V. lost his life in 2008 when Savannah was just 10 years old. “I think my Papi would be so proud that I have continued to be me. Through all the adversity, I have continued to strive for better, and I will not give up until I am my best.”
As a Fallen Patriots scholarship recipient, Savannah is studying psychology at Baylor University. She was inspired to choose psychology because ever since she was younger, she was intrigued by the brain and mental health. Her goal is to be able to obtain her doctorate in psychology working with children with mental and developmental disabilities.
“Whenever I talk to anyone about Children of Fallen Patriots, I cannot reiterate enough that I do not think that I would have been able to get through my college career at Baylor without them. They have helped me pay for school when I didn't know where else to get the money.”
Savannah works with a man with autism in her free time; she assists him in daily living skills and towards the most independent life possible for him. She encourages other Gold Star students to do their best to accept what has happened and, from there, move towards a life the one they have lost would have wanted them to have.
There are approximately 25,000 children who have lost an active-duty parent in the military over the last 35 years. The vision of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation is to ensure that every such child receives all necessary college funding.
