On February 4, 1997, U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Mark E. died in a jet crash. His daughter Betsy was only two years old at the time. She says his military service means everything to her and it takes freedom to a whole new level. “Coming from a military family makes me realize that freedom doesn’t come free,” explains Betsy, “I am so thankful for everyone, past and present, who has served and is serving our country.”
With the help of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, Betsy is studying early childhood education at Florida International University. She says her love of kids and teaching is what inspired her to pursue a career in teaching. “I have always loved children and am passionate about teaching young ones. I knew that this was my calling in life in the 5th grade.”
Betsy knows her dad would be proud and excited to see her chase her dreams. “I think my dad would be most proud of the fact that I am achieving my dreams and finishing up college.”
Fallen Patriots is proud to assist students like Betsy. “I am so close to my degree and I have nobody to thank but Fallen Patriots for that. The foundation has also impacted my life with career opportunities, like the Atlanta Falcons Symposium. I have met so many amazing people due to this organization and I am forever grateful,” says Betsy.
Nearly 25,000 military children have lost a parent in the line of duty over the past 35 years. Fallen Patriots is working to identify and support every child in need through raising funds and awareness of the mission.
