Andrew M. is the son of U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Second Class Jeanne M., who passed away in 2006. Andrew is a senior at the State University of New York - Plattsburgh where he is studying Criminal Justice. While attending SUNY-Plattsburgh, Andrew played on the Men’s Soccer team and was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He plans on working for the New York State Police upon graduation.
Andrew tells Children of Fallen Patriots that others would describe his mother as fierce, brave, and strong-willed. “One of my favorite memories of my mom was when I was in kindergarten and she picked me up from school telling me that we had to go to the doctor's office, but then surprised me by saying that we were going to Disney World instead,” Andrew says.
When asked what he thinks his mother would be most proud of him for, Andrew says, “I think that my mom would be most proud of the person I've become today despite all of the challenges and obstacles that I've had to overcome in life to get this far. I think that she would be proud that I'm following my dreams and living life to the fullest.”
Andrew will graduate debt-free this May due to the assistance provided by Children of Fallen Patriots. “The Children of Fallen Patriots scholarship has helped me tremendously. It has allowed me to further my education and come within reach of my dream career without the financial burden that comes with collegiate education.”
There are approximately 25,000 children who have lost an active-duty parent in the military over the last 35 years. The vision of Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation is to ensure that every such child receives all necessary college funding.
