Taylor L. is the daughter of U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sergeant George L. She was four years old when her father passed away. “I remember his laughter, his dancing, and that he really loved me,” she explained. “I also have been told he loved the Marine Corps and that he was very dedicated to being a Marine and a father to me.”
With help from Fallen Patriots, Taylor is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in sociology at the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford. She plans to pursue an accelerated nursing program after graduation to become a registered nurse. “I work at an assisted living nursing home and have met many challenges there, but feel I was meant to be in this position and work towards becoming a certified RN,” she said. Her goal is to help others overcome battles with grief, loss, and pain.
Taylor believes her father would be proud of who she is today simply by being herself. When she is not studying or working, she loves to coach and play volleyball. She played year-round for ten years! “I thoroughly enjoy being around those who want to learn more about volleyball and get better at the sport,” she shared.
Fallen Patriots aims to identify and provide scholarships to all 25,000 children who have lost a parent in the line of duty over the past 35 years.
“Fallen Patriots helped me get through college. My mom is a single parent and she has done everything on her own. If Fallen Patriots was not there to assist us, I probably would not have gone to college.”
